Unauthorised works on land in Overseal

The Council was made aware on 22 August 2025 of works to facilitate unauthorised development due to deposits of hardcore, on a site south of Woodville Road in Overseal.

Later that same day a planning application was submitted, Reference DMPA/2025/1096, for a development described as 'change of use of land to form a 3 pitch family gypsy and traveller site with 3 No day rooms and access off Woodville Road – retrospective'.

Officers were contacted by residents  about a number of lorries delivering hardcore to the site and the commencement of works.

On the afternoon of 22 August, in the knowledge that a continued breach of planning control was due to occur over the Bank Holiday weekend, officers in the Planning, Enforcement and Legal teams met in the afternoon to compile a Temporary Stop Notice, which was served in-person on-site, shortly before 6pm that day.

Officers in the Planning, Enforcement and Legal Teams met on Tuesday (26 August) to discuss further enforcement options.

Environmental Health officers are investigating noise nuisance and other Environmental concerns and will serve enforcement notices were appropriate.

We are also working with the Police in relation to anti-social behaviour issues, and the County Council regarding the unauthorised stopping up/ diversion of the public footpath.
