Swadlincote Bus Station closed temporarily while work taking place
Swadlincote bus station and car park will be temporarily closed from Tuesday 6 January 2026.
The temporary closures are expected to be in place for around 12 weeks affecting the Car Park and 14 weeks for the Bus Station.
Bus services and coaches are being moved to two temporary stops on Civic Way (one opposite the Health Centre and the other one opposite the Police Station), sited between the Bus Station and Civic Offices.
Why is this happening?
Derbyshire County Council are carrying out the work to make the bus station easier and safer to use. Funding for the work is coming from the Government, through DCC’s Bus Service Improvement Plan.
What will change?
The main change is a new combined entry / exit access for the car park at the Civic Offices end of the site. Buses will enter at the Royal Mail Delivery Office end but there will be no access to the car park here. The Bus Station will be bus and coach only, which will make it safer. Access for pedestrians to the town centre will be improved as there will be no need to cross the car park entrance road.
New bus shelters will provide more seating, will include real-time information displays. There will also be a large screen on the pavement from the town centre showing all bus times. The bus station site will be resurfaced and new lighting and signage installed.
The SDDC car park bays will be re-marked to provide better spacing. Wheelchair accessible bays will be in a more convenient location and a Parent and Child Bay will be provided.

Derbyshire County Council are delivering these improvements in partnership with South Derbyshire District Council, who own the site
