Marking the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day


It is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day this year and there are various events taking place across the district to commemorate the sacrifices made during the war. Please click the links for more information.
Thursday 8th May:
- Flag Raising ceremony at 10am at The Delph, Midland Road, Swadlincote DE11 0AG
- Lighting of the Lamp of Peace at 9pm at Eureka Park, Midland Road, Swadlincote DE11 0BA
- VE Day Commemoration Picnic and Beacon Lighting from 7pm (with the lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm) at Rosliston Forestry Centre, Burton Road, Rosliston DE12 8JX
Friday 9th May:
- VE Day Best of British Party from 7pm - 11pm at Shardlow Village Hall, 29 The Wharf, Shardlow, Derbyshire DE72 2GH. Tickets include entry and picnic buffet
Saturday 10th May:
- Free VE Postcard Making from 11am - 3pm at Sharpes Pottery Museum, 23 West Street, Swadlincote DE11 9DG
- VE Day 80th Anniversary Party with Gresley Male Voice Choir and Gresley Colliery Band from 7pm at Granville Academy, Burton Road, Swadlincote DE11 7JR. Tickets are £10
- VE Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration with the Force Ten Big Band and the Burton Big Band from 7.30pm - 10pm at the Newhall Social Club, 97 High Street, Newhall DE11 0HT. Tickets are £10 (half proceeds going to local armed forces veterans association).
