Customer Service Excellence approved for South Derbyshire residents!
South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC) has achieved the prestigious Customer Service Excellence® (CSE) certification, recognising its strong commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services to residents, businesses, and communities in the District.
The national standard, which was originally developed by the Cabinet Office, assesses how well organisations meet their customers’ needs. As part of this process, SDDC was independently assessed by Assessment Services Ltd, providing robust external validation of its performance against the standard.
The assessment identified several key strengths, including a strong and structured approach to engaging with residents and customers, ensuring that feedback actively informs service delivery and influences strategic priorities.
SDDC also demonstrated a well-embedded customer-focused culture, with staff across all service areas committed to delivering flexible, responsive, and supportive services. This is reinforced through leadership, training, and a shared understanding that every service contributes to the overall customer experience.
The Council’s commitment to inclusive and accessible services was recognised, alongside effective partnership working with local organisations to deliver coordinated and responsive support for residents and customers.
A transparent and timely approach to communication, combined with a structured system for managing complaints and feedback, ensures that insight is used to drive continuous service improvement.
Richard Adkins, Lead Inspector for Assessment Services Ltd, said: “We are pleased to recognise South Derbyshire District Council’s achievement of Customer Service Excellence.
“The assessment identified a strong organisational commitment to customer-focused service delivery, supported by effective engagement, inclusive practices, and a clear focus on continuous improvement.”
Teams across the Council and partner organisations were interviewed by the assessor as part of the process, and a wide range of feedback given, as well as evidence provided.
Cllr Robert Pearson, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said: “Last year we made a clear commitment to achieve this accreditation because we believed that a strong, customer‑focused approach was well embedded in the Council.
“It is extremely encouraging to have that belief independently confirmed through this certification. The assessment shows, through evidence and direct engagement with our staff, Members and partners, that we consistently strive to deliver high‑quality, responsive services.
“I want to thank all our employees for their professionalism and dedication. This achievement is a real credit to their hard work and commitment to delivering excellent services for our communities.”
