🌍 Supporting Health and Wellbeing Across South Derbyshire This World Health Day

WHD WHD

South Derbyshire District Council is supporting residents to take positive steps towards better health and wellbeing this World Health Day (7 April).

This year’s theme, “Together for health. Stand with science”, highlights how working together and taking simple, evidence-based steps can support better health and wellbeing for everyone.

To mark the occasion, a World Health Day market event will be held at Green Bank Leisure Centre on the 7th of April, bringing together a range of local organisations offering advice, support and information on health and wellbeing services available across the district.

We also wanted to highlight our Get Active in the Forest programme, which offers a range of free, guided walks in locations across South Derbyshire.

The walks take place in a variety of local parks and green spaces, including areas such as Rosliston Forestry Centre, and are suitable for a range of abilities. They provide an opportunity for residents to get active, enjoy the outdoors and meet others in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Spending time in green spaces is widely recognised as beneficial for both physical and mental health, helping to reduce stress, improve mood and support overall wellbeing. South Derbyshire’s parks and open spaces play an important role in supporting healthier lifestyles within our local communities.

We have also recently launched our Adult Activity Brochure for 2026 (pdf, 18.4mb), which brings together a wide range of activities available to residents. The brochure includes information on guided walks, fitness sessions and wellbeing activities designed to support people to become more active in a way that suits them.

Residents are encouraged to attend the event at Green Bank Leisure Centre or explore the Adult Activity Brochure to find out more about activities taking place across the district.
