Planning Application for Swadlincote Leisure Centre now live!
The planning application has been submitted for the brand-new leisure facility and office building, set to be built just off William Nadin Way in Swadlincote.
This state-of-the-art building will replace the current Green Bank Leisure Centre which, once the new centre is built, will be demolished as part of the redevelopment of Swadlincote town centre*. The leisure centre will also include a modern open-plan office facility. This flexible workspace is being designed for potential use as a satellite office for the planned new unitary council**, or to be leased to other tenants in the future.
Designs were originally presented to the Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee on 13 November and went out for public consultation late last year.
More than 450 local people, business representatives and community groups responded to the consultation, either in-person at our dedicated events, or via the online form. The feedback was overwhelmingly supportive with 88% of respondents being in support of the scheme. Nearly 60% of respondents were existing leisure centre members or frequent visitors to Green Bank and 83% thought the location and parking at the new proposed site was suitable for users’ needs.
Responses to the consultation and the involvement from residents, stakeholders, Elected Members and Council employees were all collated and considered as part of the planning submission.
The Council’s project team will continue conversations with key stakeholders as the more detailed part of the design and build process progresses.
Created by CPMG Architects, part of the collaborative design team appointed to the project in September 2025, the designs were officially submitted to South Derbyshire District Council on schedule at the end of 2025. Plans went live today and can be viewed on the Planning Portal here.
“Submitting the Council’s plans for this transformative new leisure facility in South Derbyshire is a huge milestone. This state-of-the-art leisure complex and office space will be a fantastic asset to Swadlincote and South Derbyshire as a whole. The building is not just designed to support our local communities, but to encourage more visitors into the District, driving the economy and encouraging growth.”
