Cllr Angela Archer, who has been Chair of South Derbyshire District Council since May 2025, will this month hand over her Chains after a fantastic year serving the District – but not before she ticks a few final jobs off her list!

Being a Chair means a lot of visits around the District, ribbon cuttings, concerts, festivals, official services and many more fantastic events. The Chair also gets to select their chosen charity for the year, carrying out fundraising activities throughout the year to provide as much support as possible.

Cllr Archer has focused her support on mental health charities; first selecting the Collective Hub in Swadlincote. When that sadly folded late last year due to the passing of its Chief Executive, she moved her support to Derbyshire Mind, who have done much work with the Collective Hub over the years.

Derbyshire Mind is a local, independent, Derbyshire based Mental Health Charity, providing a range of community mental health and wellbeing services to improve and promote mental health and wellbeing for the population of Derbyshire.

Alongside her Consort, Sue Taylor, Cllr Archer recently presented Joe Heeney, Head of Partnerships and Services for Derbyshire Mind, with a cheque for £1,365.94.

As an independent charity, Derbyshire Mind has to raise funds in order to deliver its services each and every year.

Cllr Angela Archer, Chair of South Derbyshire District Council, said: “Derbyshire Mind does a fantastic job across South Derbyshire, working with a wide range of people who need that extra bit of help and support with their mental health.

“There are so many facets to the work they do, from crisis support, which is genuinely life saving, to supporting those with low level mental health concerns, hosting events and activities to help people to feel supported.

“I’m delighted to have been able to raise this money for the charity, thanks to the generosity of those who have attended some of my events over the year, including my Charity Civic Dinner at the end of April.

Head of Partnerships and Services, Joe Heeney MBE, said: “Derbyshire Mind is honoured that the Chair of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Angela Archer, has chosen to support our work through her fundraising events this year.

“Funding like this means a great deal and will not only support those in need of the services provided by Derbyshire Mind, but having Cllr Archer’s support will also raise awareness of the importance of mental health and wellbeing for everyone.”

The money raised will go towards supporting Derbyshire Mind’s Craft and Coffee Club sessions in Swadlincote. The service is a fortnightly event currently, but with this funding, the charity will be able to nearly double the amount of sessions taking place, making it available on a weekly basis.
