Brand new energy-efficient homes ready for South Derbyshire residents
THE first tranche of ten brand new energy efficient homes are ready to let to applicants from South Derbyshire District Council’s housing register
The new homes, built by housebuilder, Taylor Wimpey, include a range of high-quality energy-efficient one-bedroom apartments, part of a family housing development at New House Farm in Mickleover. Close to lots of local amenities, transport links and large employers, the properties are ideally positioned for tenants looking for a secure, warm and modern home.
The collection of apartments on Kinder Drive and Beamish Close have been built to traditional construction methods, with Solar PV Panels, to help reduce electricity bills by generating renewable energy throughout the day. Highly insulated with gas central heating, the properties will be comfortable and reliable; built to last.
These new affordable homes, offered at social rent levels, will provide much-needed housing for local people who would otherwise be unable to access suitable accommodation on the open market, helping to reduce housing inequality. They will be let through the Council’s allocation system to those people on the housing register with a housing need.
Councillor Mick Mulgrew, Vice Chair of the Housing and Community Services Committee at South Derbyshire District Council, said:
“The acquisition of these homes forms part of a wider investment programme being delivered through our Housing and Health Strategy. The strategy commits to delivering new Council homes each year, helping to replace properties lost through the Right to Buy scheme, while also increasing the overall supply of affordable housing across the District.
“I’ve been lucky enough to visit these properties with members of our Strategic Housing Team and I was delighted to see the fantastic build standard, not to mention the space and great position they are in too. I hope the residents who move into these apartments are just as delighted with their new home.”
The Government’s Future Homes Standard, which comes into force in March 2027, means that all newly built homes must benefit from carbon reduction measures and technology that not only helps the environment, but helps reduce the overall cost of living through energy cost savings. This aligns with the Council’s priority to tackle fuel poverty and deliver more affordable homes year-on-year.
Brett Larkins, Site Manager for Taylor Wimpey, said:
"It's great to reach this stage of the project and get these homes ready for let. We've been working closely with the team at South Derbyshire District Council to make sure we are providing high-quality, energy efficient homes that are built to last. We build hundreds of properties on sites like this, but some stand out to you; knowing these homes will go to people in need on the housing register is a real bonus."
