Active Adults
Whatever your age or ability, there is something to help everyone be active and to have fun at the same time.
Getting active is one of the best ways that you can improve your overall health and wellbeing.
Whatever your starting point or current activity levels, South Derbyshire has so much to offer its residents with a wide range of activities, community groups and sports clubs within the region.
Adult Activity Brochure
We have a regularly updated Adult Activity Brochure it has a variety of the activities and sessions to try for the first time, or pick up an old hobby. You can find the latest version here .
Inside, you’ll find a wide variety of indoor and outdoor physical activities designed to support your health and wellbeing. Sessions are organised by day and time so you can quickly see which activities best fit your schedule. Each activity is delivered by an independent contributor, so details may vary. We encourage you to contact the session organiser before attending.
If you are interested in featuring your own session or contributing to a future edition of this brochure, please contact us at: Active.SD@southderbyshire.gov.uk
Support for elderly and vulnerable residents
As a team and a wider community, we're trying to build activity into our day as much as possible, and support those around us to be active in a way that suits them.
For help for those looking for ideas on how to stay active during this period, visit the Active Derbyshire website.
Live Stronger for Longer - this community-based exercise programme supports people who have fallen or are at risk of falling to improve their strength, balance and coordination. Structured sessions are delivered from community venues by Age UK Derby and Derbyshire in partnership with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust. Age UK also delivers a free, 24 week Strong and Steady programme, providing social and peer support and conducting falls awareness activities.
The Live Stronger for Longer Booklet gives loads of tips and advice on how to stay independent and things you can do to prevent falls. Includes exercises and how to get up correctly if you do fall.
Falls are not an inevitable part of getting older. Anyone can have a fall but older people who fall are more likely to end up in hospital.
This booklet will help you assess your risk of having a fall and by taking our Super Six Challenge to help you LIVE STRONGER FOR LONGER.
