Our Arts Strategy


We’re developing an Arts Strategy to:

  • Celebrate and support local creativity – from community groups to professional artists.
  • Make arts more accessible – so that everyone can take part, enjoy, and benefit.
  • Strengthen our local identity – by showcasing the unique culture and heritage of our area.
  • Encourage collaboration – between artists, organisations, schools, and residents.
  • Attract investment and opportunities – to help our creative sector thrive.

This strategy will be shaped by local voices and reflect the needs and ambitions of our communities. Whether you’re an artist, a resident, or someone who enjoys creative experiences, we are keen to have your input!

We are part of Artsderbyshire, a hub for arts activities across Derbyshire and Derby City. It includes a directory of Derbyshire artists and arts organisations, newsletters, opportunities, activities, festivals, links, advice and resources.

Projects include marketing grants, dance development, Live and Local and Festivity.

At a more local level we support People Express, which aims to empower people through arts creativity and fun. Artists, participants and groups with shared interests have seen their projects attract national and international acclaim.We are currently developing an arts strategy. The strategy will help us set out how we, as a council, support and develop arts and creativity across our communities. It helps us understand what’s already happening locally, what people value, and where there are opportunities to grow and improve.
