SwadHenge - accidental landmark

Our roundabout, sponsored by Toons, sits proudly in Swadlincote at the junction of Church Street, Civic Way and Derby Road (A514).

Small but perfectly formed, the roundabout features 'gabions' of local rock and stone which make perfect homes for insects. The insects have been briefed about road safety and advised to fly high to avoid being squished.

Sedums and other drought-loving plants have also been included, to enable the roundabout to exist as a mini ecosystem that doesn't need watering.

It would be great if people could avoid using their screen wash as they drive round it, as the chemicals in the screen wash are not plant and wildlife friendly.

Please view SwadHenge from the local pavements and do not attempt to cross over to inspect it. This is to protect the 'wild' inhabitants and reduce any risk of traffic-related incidents. Take care not to distract drivers when viewing the monument.

SwadHenge is an edifice for the people. It has been taken to heart by local residents after their initial 'stoney-faced' surprise when it was formed in late summer, 2025
