Annual Canvass

The 2026 Canvass of properties is expected to start in early August and during the canvass period you will receive communication from the Council by letter and/or email asking for confirmation of who is eligible to vote in your household. Where applicable, an Invitation To Register will be sent out as a follow up to those not already registered to vote.

To make sure you are included on the 2026 Electoral Register (if you are not already registered), you can visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote at any time of the year, and you will be ready to have your say in future elections. Being on the Electoral Register may also improve your credit rating. Online Electoral Registration applications typically take only a few minutes.

To be eligible to register to vote you must be:

• Resident (usually live) in England and aged 16 or over (but you will not be able to vote until you are aged 18).

And also be either:

• A British citizen or Irish citizen

• A Commonwealth citizen (including Maltese and Cypriot) who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, Channel

Islands or Isle of Man, or who does not need permission

• A European Union (EU) citizen of Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, or Spain who has permission to enter

or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, or who does not need permission

• A European Union (EU) citizen of any other EU country who on or before 31 December 2020 had permission to

enter or stay in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man, or who did not need permission, and this has continued

without a break.

The EU citizens described above can vote in local elections, and Mayor of London and London Assembly elections only.
