First Swadlincote Leisure Centre design concepts out for public view!
Later this month the Council will share its first design concepts for the brand-new leisure centre, set to be built just off William Nadin Way in Swadlincote.
This state-of-the-art building will replace the current Green Bank Leisure Centre which, once the new centre is built, will be demolished as part of the redevelopment of Swadlincote town centre*. The leisure centre will also include a purpose-built open-plan office space located above the facility. This flexible workspace is being designed for potential use as a satellite office for the planned new unitary council**, or to be leased to other tenants in the future.
Designs will be presented to the Council’s Housing and Community Services Committee on 13 November, and out for consultation with the public, councillors, employees, and local stakeholders from Tuesday 25 November till Friday 12 December.
Created by CPMG Architects, part of the collaborative design team appointed to the project in September, the designs are at an early stage. They provide insight into the position of the building on Cadley Park, the external design, suggested internal layout, surrounding landscape, car parking and access.
Designs will be available to view:
- Online from Tuesday 25 November, with a quick survey to complete. Details will be shared via social media and the Council’s website on this date.
- In person on Tuesday 25 November 2025
- 7am till 12noon, Green Bank Leisure Centre – there will be a display up in the leisure centre during the whole consultation period, with images to view and a QR code to use in order to take part in the online consultation. Members of our project and design team will also be available to chat to leisure centre users on the below dates/times:
- 1pm till 7pm, Swadlincote Town Hall - Members of our project and design team will also be available to chat to residents and leisure centre users on the below dates/times
Responses from the consultation will be considered and included in the planning application, which is expected to be submitted in late 2025/early 2026.
Councillor Robert Pearson, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said:
“A project like this is complicated and there has been a huge amount of work going on in the background to get us to this stage. But of course, these key milestones in the programme are the most exciting, as we all get to take a sneak peek at what’s been happening, and the plans for this future new addition to our district.
“I would encourage our existing leisure centre users to have their say, as well as any local residents, partners and stakeholders. It is important that whatever we create suits the needs of our local community.”
