A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is a control measure created by the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The orders deal with specific nuisances or problems in a defined area that are 'detrimental to the community’s quality of life'.

In order for a PSPO to be made the Council has to be satisfied that the behaviours carried out or behaviour that is likely to be carried out meets the following requirements:-

• The behaviour has had or is likely to have had a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality;
• is, or is likely to be persistent or continuing in nature;
• is, or is likely to be unreasonable; and
• justifies the restrictions imposed.

A PSPO can last for a maximum of three years before it ends. However they can be renewed by up to three years if it is considered necessary to prevent the original behaviour from recurring.
