Presenting your bins and recycling correctly
To help us empty your bins safely and efficiently, please make sure your waste and recycling is presented correctly on your collection day.
Following the guidance below will help reduce missed collections and keep services running smoothly.
Put your bins out by 6am
Please place your bins at the edge of your property by 6am on your collection day.
Collection times can vary. Due to adverse weather or vehicle breakdowns, operational issues, we may be unable to empty your bin on the normal day. If this happens please leave your bin out and we will collect it at the earliest opportunity.
You can put your bins out the evening before collection if needed.
Make sure bin lids are closed
Please make sure all bin lids are fully closed.
We do not collect extra waste left at the side of your black bin, brown bin or food waste bin.
Bins with open lids or extra waste placed beside them may not be emptied.
Cardboard placed beside your green recycling bin
Cardboard can be placed alongside your green recycling bin, but it must be presented correctly.
Please make sure cardboard is:
- broken down
- flat-packed
- no larger than around the size of a small microwave box
- placed neatly beside your green recycling bin
This helps our crews collect it safely and keeps collections running smoothly.
Large boxes that have not been broken down may not be collected.
If you have large cardboard that you cannot break down to the required size, please take it to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Newhall or Raynesway.
Put the right items in the right bins
Please make sure your bins only contain the materials we can collect and recycle.
Your food waste bin, brown bin, green recycling bin and black recycling caddy should only contain items from our wanted list.
We can only recycle these materials. Collection crews are not allowed to sort through bins to remove items that should not be there.
Bins that contain the wrong materials may not be emptied.
Why bins may not be emptied
Your bin or recycling may not be collected if:
- it was not out by 6am
- the lid was not closed
- extra waste was placed beside the wrong bin
- the bin contained items that should not be in there
- cardboard was too large or had not been broken down
- the bin was too heavy to move safely
- access to the bin was blocked
What to do if your bin has not been emptied
If your bin was presented correctly and has not been emptied, please report it to us.
Thank you
Thank you for helping our crews collect your waste and recycling safely and efficiently.
