Procurement Strategy

South Derbyshire District Council’s new Procurement Strategy sets out how we will use procurement as a strategic enabler to deliver our Council Plan priorities and create lasting benefits for our residents, communities and local businesses.

Aligned with the principles of the new Procurement Act 2023, which came into effect in February 2025, our approach promotes transparency, fairness and value for money, while harnessing the power of procurement to achieve wider social, economic and environmental outcomes.

Through this strategy, we are embedding procurement at the heart of how the Council delivers services – ensuring every pound we spend works harder for South Derbyshire. This means:

Boosting the local economy – supporting local suppliers, creating opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and encouraging innovation and investment across the district.
Creating jobs and skills – using procurement to drive social value and open up opportunities for training, apprenticeships and local employment.
Protecting the environment – promoting sustainable and low-carbon solutions through our supply chain to help achieve our climate ambitions.
Supporting communities – partnering with suppliers who share our values and commitment to making a positive difference in South Derbyshire.

By taking this forward-looking and inclusive approach, we are ensuring our procurement activity not only delivers efficient and compliant services, but also contributes to a thriving, sustainable and fair South Derbyshire.
