Swadlincote Heritage Trails

There are lots of local interest and heritage trails around South Derbyshire, exploring our fascinating history.

Our local history archive, The Magic Attic, contains a vast number of photographs and resources from Swadlincote’s past and is open for people to visit and find out more about the local area's past.

Magic Attic resources, along with research and photos from individuals, have been used to create a Heritage Trail around Swadlincote in two parts - Swadlincote Town Centre and Swadlincote Villages (Church Gresley, Midway, Newhall, Woodville and Hartshorne). This was created by a team led by the Magic Attic and the Environmental Education Project.

These Trails includes some plaques around the town. Further information is available online by clicking in the related links section on this page and in our Swadlincote Heritage Trail (pdf, 2.7mb) and Swadlincote Villages Heritage Trail (pdf, 1.8mb) leaflets.

If you know of any organisations that might be interested in sponsoring the trail, ask them to contact us. This would enable us to create more plaques and/or pay for extra leaflets to be printed.
