Chair of the Council

Councillor Angela Archer is the current Chair of the Council.
The dedicated Woodville District Councillor was given the prestigious honour at the Civic Council meeting at Swadlincote Town Hall on Thursday 22 May 2025.
Cllr Archer was first elected to South Derbyshire District Council in May 2023. She is the first female Chair of South Derbyshire District Council in more than 11 years.
A nursing care worker by occupation, Cllr Archer is also dedicated to supporting a number of local charitable organisations.
The Chair and her Consort, Sue Taylor, will be supporting local events and carrying out civic duties across South Derbyshire in 2024-2025.
The Chair’s chosen charity for the coming year is the Collective Hub, based on West Street in Swadlincote.
This much needed community charity provides a safe, fun and welcoming space for anyone, from babies to pensioners; whether it be for youth clubs, activities and events, or its Community Café, which is open six days a week and run by volunteers. There is specialist support provided for children and young people with special educational needs, which can be a real lifeline for some children and their families.
Cllr Archer is hoping to raise as much money as she can for the charity over the next year. She commented: “This is such an important place for our local community. I didn’t want to pick a larger charity that already accesses big funding pots, I wanted something very local, that offers an important space for children, young people and their families. This is a place for opportunity, for fun and a place that cares, Mikey who runs Collective Hub is fantastic and really cares about every person that walks through those doors, young or old. He even opens up on Christmas Day, it’s such a fantastic local resource. I hope we can really support them this year!”
Cllr Alistair Tilley who represents the Linton ward, has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the Council for the coming year.
He and his wife and Consort, Lenore, are looking forward to supporting Cllr Archer, as they attend as many events as possible. They welcome invites from members of the public, businesses, and voluntary organisations.
